Comic Review: Super Sons #10
/It really is hard to convey how much I love this series. Whenever a new issue comes out, I feel like it's a pallet cleanse for the soul. It brings the joy of youth to frequently dark world. But Rebirth hasn't been overly dark. In fact, it's been rather joyous! We have all been happy to see a little light shine into our... wait... what's this?
Intermezzo: a short connecting instrumental movement in an opera or other musical work.
Alright, looks like things are about to get "edgy"... which according to Greg Weismen is like "gritty," just "edgier."
But, that isn't what this comic is really about. It's about friendship... even if Damian won't admit it. It's about becoming a better person and teammate... even if Jon doesn't understand it. It's about fathers passing their legacy to to their sons... even as their sons don't see it yet. It's about getting a sweet new secret head quarters.
Oh, you're calling it that.
And let me tell you, this new HQ has everything. It has Batarang producing 3D printers, Watchtower connected com-systems, teleportation pods to Gotham and Metropolis, and it even has a mini-fridge! Plus it's underwater! How cool is that? They also get to go to school together in Metropolis... something Damian is less than excited about.
You're a teenager? but you're so short.
I'm going to cut to the chase right now. Buy this book. Every page is great. Tomasi's dialog is top-notch. It's funny, heartwarming, and exuberant. It is a celebration of youth. A celebration which will end after seeing his little "Intermezzo" page.
The art team knocked it out of the park with this one too. Jose Luiz's pencils are super detailed, Scott Hanna's inks make those pencil's pop, and Alejandro Sanchez's colors make those images come to life. A great combination of talent.
If you haven't picked up Super Sons before now, it's the perfect time to do so. We are at the start of a new story arc, one that is already off to a great start!
